Developer-first infrastructure

APIs engineers actually want to use.

Coastal Practice ships developer-first infrastructure with documentation that tells the truth — so your team spends less time debugging our abstractions and more time shipping your product.

Why engineering teams choose Coastal Practice

Three principles we refuse to compromise on, no matter how fast we move.

Honest documentation

Every endpoint, every error code, every edge case — documented before it ships. Our API reference is generated from the same source as the implementation, so what you read is what you get. No stale examples, no hand-waved error states, no promises we can't keep at 3am on a Saturday.

Sub-100ms response times

Our core data-plane is colocated in the AWS eu-west-1 region, putting the majority of Irish and European requests well under 80ms at the 99th percentile. We publish a live latency dashboard — not because we're perfect, but because we think you deserve to see the same numbers we do.

Clean primitives, no magic

We don't hide complexity behind clever abstractions that break in production. Each resource in the Coastal Practice API maps directly to a well-understood data structure. If something goes wrong, the stack trace will make sense — and our support team speaks the same language as your engineers.

EU-native compliance

Incorporated in Ireland and operating fully within EU jurisdiction, our infrastructure is built around GDPR from the ground up — not bolted on afterwards. Data residency, audit logs, and DPA agreements are included at every paid tier, not priced as add-ons for enterprise customers who know to ask.

“We evaluated three Irish API platforms before choosing Coastal Practice. The deciding factor wasn't even the latency numbers — it was that their docs told us upfront which endpoints had known rate-limit quirks in high-concurrency scenarios. That kind of honesty saves days of debugging. We've been on the Pro plan for eight months and haven't hit a surprise yet.”

Built in Limerick, designed for the web's hardest problems.

Coastal Practice was founded in 2021 by a small team of engineers who spent years maintaining third-party integrations held together with undocumented behaviour and optimistic assumptions. The company sits on Mallow Street in Limerick city centre, a short walk from the University of Limerick's innovation campus — and that proximity to rigorous computer science thinking shapes how we approach every technical decision. Our warm terracotta-cream studio reflects the kind of environment we believe good software comes from: grounded, unhurried, deliberately designed rather than grown by accident. We are a micro team, which means every engineer who builds a feature also writes its documentation and answers support tickets. That constraint is intentional — it keeps us honest.

Common questions from developers

Is there a free tier?

Yes — the Sandbox plan gives you full read and write access to all endpoints at up to 10,000 requests per month at no cost. No credit card is required to sign up, and the sandbox environment persists indefinitely so you can prototype at your own pace without artificial time pressure.

Where is my data stored?

All production data is stored in AWS eu-west-1 (Dublin) with encrypted backups in eu-central-1 (Frankfurt). We do not replicate data outside the EU under any circumstances. A Data Processing Agreement is available to all paid plan subscribers and can be countersigned within 24 hours of request.

What authentication methods do you support?

We support API key authentication for server-side integrations and OAuth 2.0 with PKCE for user-facing flows. All keys are scoped by resource and permission level. You can rotate keys without downtime using our key-versioning system, and webhook signatures use HMAC-SHA256 so you can verify payload integrity on receipt.

How do I get support?

Sandbox users have access to our public Discord community and documentation site. Start and Pro plan subscribers get email support with a guaranteed 8-hour response window on business days. Enterprise contracts include a shared Slack channel with a named account engineer and a 2-hour SLA for production incidents.

Do you offer SLAs?

Yes. Pro plan subscribers receive a 99.9% monthly uptime SLA with service credits for breach. Enterprise subscribers receive a 99.95% SLA. We publish historical uptime via our status page at status.riverhcloud.today, and we post incident postmortems publicly within five business days of any incident above P2 severity.
